February 16th, 2018 marked the passing of James F. Cadman to his eternal life with our Lord.

James, known among his many friends and family members as “Jim”, was born on April 23rd, 1928 in Homestead, Pennsylvania, elder son of James and Lillian Cadman.  Jim remained in the Homestead area throughout his young life, ultimately graduating from Homestead High School and Schwab Vocational School.

Jim married Margaret “Peggy” Pryle on November 5th, 1951.  Upon his enlistment in the United States Air Force, they began their lives together at Bolling Air Force Base, Washington D.C., where Jim served as an auto mechanic.  With his Honorable Discharge some four years later, Jim and Peggy returned to Homestead, PA, where Jim secured employment in the U.S Steel Homestead Works steel plant.  He quickly rose through the ranks, ultimately being promoted to Senior Foreman of the Homestead Works Maintenance Department.  In 1976, Jim accepted position as Maintenance Manager for Ohio Barge Lines, a subsidiary of U.S. Steel, then returned to Homestead Works for his final year with U.S. Steel prior to retirement.

Among his varied hobbies over the years, Jim most enjoyed Judo, earning his Blackbelt in 1978, the year his first grandchild was born.  He also enjoyed, and excelled at, fishing, and, as a younger man, water skiing.  As a “Founding Father” of the Pine Run Boat Club, Jim became a boating enthusiast and taught countless young people how to ski and fish.

Following retirement, Jim and Peg remained in Homestead, though they began “snow birding” at Lake Okeechobee, Florida for several months each winter.  They later purchased a cabin at Lake Chautauqua, NY, spending their summers next to their oldest daughter.

Cherishing Jim’s memory are his daughter Caren and husband Dick; his daughter, Jan and husband Keith; and his brother Jackie.  Jim will also continue to live on through his 3 grandchildren: Jason, Arnica, and Jamie; and through his 7 great-grandchildren:  Vera, Bostic, Eloise, Carter, Collin, Taryn and Cole.

A Funeral Service celebrating his life is scheduled for Sunday, February 18th, beginning at 1:00 PM, at the George Irvin Green Funeral Home, 3511 Main Street, Munhall, PA.  In lieu of flowers, Jim would have preferred memorial contributions in his honor to Hospice of Central PA or your favorite charity.
