Anthony J. Falce—known affectionately as AJ, Tony, Scarola, and Scud—passed away on June 17, 2025, surrounded by his loving family, following a brief illness. He was 94.
Born in Pittsburgh on June 14, 1931, at Homestead Hospital, Anthony was the eldest surviving child of Michael (Michele) Falce and Angeline (Coppola) Falce. He grew up in the Hays neighborhood and spent much of his early life there before moving to Munhall in 1971. After the passing of his father, Anthony moved into the home they had built together—a place where he and his beloved wife, Elaine, would remain and raise their three children.
Anthony was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Fiercely loyal and deeply principled, he embraced his role as the patriarch of the Falce family with quiet strength and unwavering dedication. To know him was to have a steady hand to hold during life’s most difficult moments
A proud 1949 graduate of St. Mary of the Mount High School, Anthony was drafted into service during the Korean War at age 20. He served courageously on the front lines as a medic for 16 months and was awarded the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, the United Nations Service Medal, and the Republic of Korea Presidential Citation. Though he rarely spoke of his experiences, they profoundly shaped the man he became.
Anthony was a 40-year member of the Graphic Communications International Union (GCIU) and spent 30 years of his career as a lithographer for the Continental Can Company where he served as a union steward and produced the infamous sports-themed Iron City beer cans for Pittsburgh Brewing in the 70s and 80s.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, Anthony especially loved all Pittsburgh sports teams—but his heart belonged to the Pittsburgh Steelers. A season ticket holder from 1952 to 2006, he rarely missed a game. Outside of sports, his great joy was tending his garden and fruit trees. His family and friends were the grateful beneficiaries of his labor, enjoying fresh tomato sauce, sweet canned peaches, and, most famously, his homemade wine.
Anthony is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Elaine Falce; daughters Judith Devey (Mark) and Michelle Falce (Glen Embree); son Steven Falce (Stephanie); his brother Francis Falce (Rita); his sister Carmella Falce; and his cherished grandchildren Ruby, Alice, Clare, Annemarie, and Tre. He was immensely proud of their accomplishments and took great joy in their company. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Teresa Cozzoli, and his brother Peter Falce.
Family and friends will be recieved Thursday, June 19, from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at the George Irvin Green Funeral Home, Inc. 3511 Main Street, Munhall, 412-461-6394.
