Arlene (Arnold) Tegtmeier, formerly of Mt. Oliver, passed away Thursday, April 30, 2026, at Kane Hospital in Bridgeville. She was born October 20, 1940, in Pittsburgh, the daughter of the late Joseph and Bernice Arnold. She was pre-deceased by her sister, Kathleen Karwowski, and her brother Dale Arnold. She is survived by her brother Robert (Elizabeth) Arnold, and by her children, Frances Herceg (Douglas), Darcy Kass (Douglas), Joanna Whitacre (John), Kelly Patton (Butch), and Matthew Tegtmeier (Stacey). Arlene was blessed with 11 grandchildren: Scott, Katie, Jay, Aaron, Stephanie, David, Grant, Trey, Alex, Aidan, and Ginger, and 5 great-grandchildren: Santina, Austin, Cameron, Hanna, and Matthew. “Aunt Arby” also had many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Arlene was a graduate of Pittsburgh’s South High School. She was very proud of her work while employed by the Diocese of Pittsburgh. In her free time, she enjoyed crocheting, singing, and dancing. She also spent many years as a member of the Mt. Oliver Ladies Auxiliary supporting their Volunteer Fire Department. She also did some window decorating for businesses on Brownsville Road in the 1970’s.
Her children would like to thank her caregiver, Laura Zarecki, for her kind and devoted attention, as well as the staff at Kane and Bridges Hospice.
One memory we would like to share is that Arlene sang to all of us when we were children. Some of our funniest (and fondest) memories are of Mom singing such songs as How Much is that Doggy in the Window, Down by the Old Mill Stream, Ball and the Jack, and I Love You, a Bushel and a Peck. These little songs, sung with spirit if not actual talent, now bring us some laughter to ease the sting of tears.
Family and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial at St Therese RC Church, 1 St Therese Ct, at 11:30 AM on Friday, May 15, with Fr. Jim Bachner officiating. Please leave your memories and condolences at www.georgeigreenfuneralhome.com.
