Betty Jane Lloyd, Of Munhall, passed away with family at her side on July 21, 2017.  Predeceased by her parents, Richard E. and Jane H. (Cadman) Lloyd as well as her brothers, Herbert I. and Richard E. Lloyd.

She was a member of the Munhall High School (now Steel Valley) Class of 1940; held a Bachelor of Science Degree from Carnegie Institute of Technology (now Carnegie Mellon University); and a Master’s Degree in Business Education from the University of Pittsburgh.

In 1943, she became a faculty member in Munhall Schools where she taught business courses until 1948.  She then joined the faculty of Margaret Morrison Carnegie College, Carnegie Institute of Technology where she taught and served as Associate Dean until the demise of that College in 1973 and simultaneously as Associate Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (now the Dietrich College of Humanities and Social Sciences) from its inception in 1967.  After thirty-five years of service she retired in 1983 with the designation of Associate Professor of Business and Associate Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, Emeritus.  A pioneer in the changing role of women she was the only woman to serve as president of the university’s Faculty Club and the only one to act as Faculty Marshall at a Commencement Ceremony.

Miss Lloyd was a past president of the Zonta Club of Pittsburgh, a published author in Professional and Personnel journals, and a consultant to local industries – Jones and Laughlin Steel Company, Aluminum Company of America and Westinghouse Atomic Laboratories.  She enjoyed spending time with family, friends and colleagues as well as traveling, needlework of various kinds and reading.

Survivors include five nieces and nephews, ten great nieces and nephews, eleven great-great nieces and nephews and several cousins.

The family would like to thank the most caring, compassionate staff of the Arden Courts Community of Jefferson Hills and the Allegheny Health Network Hospice Team for their most professional and empathic care of “Aunt B” during her last months.

At the request of the deceased there will be no visitation.  There will be a Memorial service and burial at a10AM Saturday, July 29th. “Aunt B” will be greatly missed.
