Carol P. Dornin, age 76 of Pittsburgh (Lincoln Place area), passed away on December 27, 2025, peacefully in her home with her family by her side. She was originally from the West Mifflin area, the daughter of the late James and Elizabeth (Fritzky) Pitterich. Beloved wife of the late Sam Dornin. Cherished mother of Sean (the late Brenda) Dornin and Nichole (Butch) Hagan. Loving grandmother of Mason & Max Hagan and Nicholas Dornin. She is survived by her sister Mary Jean Yanko and James (Juneanne) Pitterich. Also many nieces, nephews, and great nephews. While her absence is deeply felt, she was welcomed home and reunited with her husband, her parents, and several of her closest friends who had gone before her.
Known for her open heart and selfless nature, she had a way of making everyone feel cared for. There wasn’t a day that would go by in which she didn’t check in with her children to hear about their day. She considered their friends to be part of her extended family. So much so that many of them affectionately called her “Mama Carol”, a title she wore with pride.
Yet the greatest devotion of her heart was reserved for her three grandsons. She loved each of them fiercely and uniquely, took immense pride in who they were becoming, and truly lived for every story of their accomplishments. Nothing brought her greater joy than watching two of them play ice hockey and listening to them play the drums in the high school band, or patiently waiting to hear how the other one did in his BMX race. There are so many more milestones she was excited to endure with them, but her spirit will live through our hearts as these events occur in the future.
An avid sports fan, she was especially devoted to her Pittsburgh teams, with the Steelers holding a special place in her heart. Sundays spent watching football with her was always the highlight of her week.
In April, she received a diagnosis that led her family to believe they had many more years together, never imagining that time would be measured in months. Through it all, she faced each day with remarkable bravery and grace, rarely complaining even when others might have.
Her love, strength, and kindness will continue to live on through her family and the many lives she touched. She will be remembered always for her generous spirit, her unwavering pride in her grandchildren, and the deep love she gave so freely.
