Born in the middle of the Great Depression to Michael and Minnie May, the managers of a farmstand in Lincoln Place where the Elks stood later. She developed a love of baked bean sandwiches and honed the stubbornness that she wore as a badge of honor her entire life. She worked as a waitress at Islay's in Homestead, but ended her career with 20 plus years at Helping Hands as an elderly homecare worker in the early 2000's. She lived her life her way. She fed her dogs steak while she ate sandwiches. Most days her diet consisted of black coffee, Mountain Dew, sandwiches, and pie well into her 70's and 80's.
She was preceded in death by her loving son Sam Smerkol, Sr. Husbands John "Jackie" Smerekol, Robert "Deacon" Good, and Robert Septak. Siblings Michael "Dick" May, Carl "Moe" May and Alberta Reichert. Nephew Jim Reichert and niece Linda Mariani. Her loving dogs Hoss and Remington are by her side now. Loving grandmother of John, Stacey, and Sam Jr. (Katie) Smerkol. Great grandmother to Hayden Hoover and Jacob Smerkol. Favorite aunt of a dozen nieces and nephews, their children, and grandchildren. Kitty will be missed by all.
