Frances Irene Crain

Frances Irene Crain, 96, of Pleasant Hills, passed away on September 22, 2026, at The Residence at White Hall in Whitehall , Pennsylvania. Born September 6, 1930, in Wilson, Pennsylvania, she was the eighth of eleven children of Michael and Anna (Pritoka) Monasky.
Frances grew up across the street from the Clairton pool, where a $1 season pass meant swimming nearly every afternoon and evening all summer. Her father was general foreman at the U.S. Steel Clairton Coke Works, and her mother baked eight loaves of bread twice a week for a family that gathered around a conference table her dad brought home from the mill. Faith was at the center of their lives at St. Clair Roman Catholic Church, and Christmas meant midnight Mass followed by stuffed cabbage, nut rolls and apricot kolaches. She was a high school cheerleader in saddle shoes and basketball star in skirts and played piano entirely by ear, a gift she kept sharing through her final years at The Residence. She met George Crain Sr. on double dates with her sister Ruth and Ruth's beau, Bob Pastorik. She knew George was the one, and they married on June 20, 1950. George built their home in Jefferson Borough, and raised 5 children. In 1970, George was killed in a work accident, leaving Frances with five young children. She was a determined woman. Later in life, she earned her registered nursing degree, and worked as a nurse, head nurse at Lawsons Nursing Home and home care nurse and coordinator at Jefferson Memorial Hospital until her retirement. Through tragedy and trials she always said the Lord, and her daughter Carol, carried her through those years. She was blessed with many years but at 96 she was ready to meet her Savior and be reunited with loved ones. Frances was preceded in death by her husband, George; her children George Crain Jr., Mary Kay Swasey (Harry) and Timothy Crain; her parents; her siblings Helen, Peg, Ruth, Edward, Bill, and Tommy. She is survived by her daughters Carol Sieger (Bob) and Christine McGuire (Mark); daughters-in-law Laura Crain and Robin Crain; grandchildren Karen, Douglas, Susan, Karina, Jonathan, Benjamin, Zachary, Nathan, Aaron, Jordan and Andrew; 16 great-grandchildren and siblings Barbara, George, Jim and Bob.
