Fred J. Bell, a beloved brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on June 4, 2025, just days shy of his 67th birthday. Born on June 7, 1958, in Homestead, Pennsylvania, he was a true son of the steel town, graduating from Steel Valley High School and embarking on a career that embraced both mechanics and driving.Fred was more than a mechanic for the city; he dedicated years of his life to serving his community, ensuring that fire trucks remained functional and ready to protect those in need. He was a proud member of the Machinist Union. Throughout his career, Fred drove for various cab companies around Pittsburgh, giving him all the material he ever needed to tell you a wild story.A hometown sports enthusiast, Fred devoted much of his free time to cheering on his favorite teams: the Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins. When he wasn't sat in front of his TV watching a game or driving a cab, you could find him in his favorite booth at Eat 'n Park, where he became a fixture.
As a kid, Fred became the neighborhood’s beloved "head statistician", humorously naming the local field the “Fred J. Bell Memorial Stadium” where he proudly served as the umpire. His playful nature and ability to bring joy to others were hallmarks of his character that will be fondly remembered by those who knew him.Fred is survived by his loving sister, Rosemary E. (Dino) Borelli; brothers, David R. and Dennis C. (Heejeo) Bell; and 11 cherished nieces and nephews, all of whom will carry on in his memory.
