Fredrick M. Lebeda of Munhall lost his battle to brain cancer on June 21, 2014.  Fred, son of late Beatrice and Andrew Lebeda, was born on March 5, 1940.  He graduated from Munhall High School in 1958 and received his BS in Education from California State University in 1963.  Fred completed graduate studies at Illinois Institute of Technology under a National Science Foundation Fellowship.  He also served in the Air Force Reserves from 1963-1969.

Fred taught secondary mathematics in the Steel Valley School District. He met his loving wife, Becky, during her first year of teaching at Woodlawn Junior High in September 1969.  They married six months later.  Fred was involved in many extra-curricular activities during his teaching career including student council advisor, head coach of cross-country, and scorekeeping basketball games.  After 31 years of teaching, he retired and pursued other activities.  Then in the summer of 2000, he began what he considered his dream job at South Park Golf Course.  In the thirteen years he spent at South Park, Fred found his second family in the wonderful coworkers and golfers.  He also got to enjoy one of his most beloved passions everyday - GOLF!  Fred was also an active member at Homestead Park United Methodist Church where he served as a faithful van driver and Sunday school teacher.  In his free time, he loved beating everybody at pool, enjoying daily walks on Main Street in Munhall, cutting grass daily (which his neighbors never understood) and playing ping pong.
Fred is survived by his wife, Becky; daughters Ruth (Chris) Robbins and Amy (Craig) Grella; three grandchildren: Michela, Drake and Autumn; two siblings James (Elinor) Lebeda of Lincoln Place and Nancy (Ted) Matlack of Avonmore, PA; four nieces and one nephew; and finally a 15 year old Miniature Dachshund, Jake.

Friends will be received at the George Irvin Green Funeral Home, 3511 Main Street, Munhall (412) 461-6394.  Wednesday, June 25 from 6-9pm, Thursday, June 26 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm.  A funeral service will be held at Homestead Park United Methodist Church, 4231 Shady Ave., Munhall on Friday at 11:30 am. (Everyone Please Meet at Church)  In lieu of flowers, please send donations to HPUMC, 4231 Shady Ave., Munhall, PA 15120 or The Cancer Caring Center, 4117 Liberty Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15224 (www.cancercaring.org/donate).
