Irene Ann Kovacs

Irene Ann Kovacs, born on May 21, 1929, in Chartiers Township, passed away peacefully at the Munhall Retirement Residence on March 4, 2026, after a long and well-lived life. She was 96 years old and leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.

Irene dedicated her career to catering, where she showcased her culinary skills and shared her passion for serving others. Throughout her life, she took immense pride in her Hungarian heritage, which often found its reflection in the music and traditions she lovingly shared with family and friends. Her hobbies included bowling, golf, and bingo, all of which she enjoyed with great enthusiasm. Irene had a zest for travel and appreciated sharing a nice glass of wine, often accompanied by laughter and joy, with her loved ones.

She is survived by her devoted children: Janet (Mike) Kovacs, Donna (Charles) Viscuso, John (Marie) Kovacs, and Karen (Michael) Bown. Irene will be fondly remembered by her grandchildren: Janet (Eric) Anderson, Stefanie (Frank) Massari, John Kovacs Jr., Jessica Kovacs, Michael Bown, and Michael Brubaker. She is also the proud matriarch of five great-grandchildren—Savannah, Raiven, James, Brandon, and Carter —and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Irene is lovingly remembered by her family, including her deceased relatives: her grandson Aaron Anderson; brothers Joseph Beres and Steve Beres; sister Margaret Powell; and parents Stephen and Elizabeth (Molnar) Beres, and perhaps most importantly, her husband, the late, John S. Kovacs.

The Kovacs family extends special thanks to the caregivers at Community Life of Homestead and Margaret Montgomery for their compassionate support during Irene’s later years.

Visitation will be held at the George Irvin Green Funeral Home in Munhall, PA, on March 6, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and again from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A Blessing Service will occur the following morning, March 7, 2026, at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow.

Irene Ann Kovacs will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her spirit and warmth will forever be cherished in the hearts of her family and friends.
