James H. Beggs of Munhall died Thursday, April 2 with loved ones by his side. Born on February 27, 1942, he was the loving son of Homer and Elizabeth (Patton) Beggs. Jim earned a Bachelor’s and two Master’s degrees from Penn State University and enjoyed his career in zoning and planning for Westmoreland County. After his liver transplant in 1989, he volunteered with a number of organizations including Family House, CORE, TRIO and the Friends Meeting House.
Jim was a long-time member of the Sierra Club. He enjoyed swimming, travel, selfies, reading, hiking, poetry, people watching and pastry. Jim was a friend of Bill W. for 25 years where many grew to love his wry sense of humor. Jim is survived by many loving cousins and was so loved by dear friends Maggie Stewart and Kelly Wilding. He was the most beloved “Big Jim” to Dylan Wilding.
A Memorial Service will be held for friends and family on Friday, April 24 at 7 p.m. at the Friends Meeting House located at 4836 Ellsworth Avenue in Shadyside. Donations in Jim’s name may be made to the Friends Meeting House (library) or to Family House at 5001 Baum Blvd, Suite 545, Pittsburgh PA 15213.
