James “Jimmy” O’Hanlon of Lincoln Place (Pittsburgh), PA died peacefully on Thursday, December 14th surrounded by his family after a valiant fight with cancer.
He was born Homestead Hospital (Pittsburgh) and attended St Agnes Grade School, McKeesport Area High School, and earned degrees from Rio Hondo College in California and Community College of Allegheny County.
He was the loving son of James “Blues” O’Hanlon (deceased) and Helen Louise “Weazy” (McClain) O’Hanlon and was the wonderful brother of William Gregg “Freedom” and Jeffrey Matthew.
James grew up in Dravosburg, PA and spent his grade school and high school years playing in the woods, hanging out with his neighborhood friends, and participating in typical adolescent mischief.
Upon his high school graduation, he moved from Pittsburgh to Los Angeles, where he enjoyed the vast portion of his life among a very close-knit group of relatives. Based upon his extremely generous and kind-spirited nature, he spent the majority of his career in customer service-oriented roles starting in his uncle’s trucking company and moving on to roles with The Marriott and Panera. However, his favorite job was as a The House Manager at a prestigious live theater in Beverly Hills where he had the opportunity to mingle with some of Hollywood’s biggest celebrities.
James had a deep love and appreciation for family. He loved spending time with relatives and he had a great sense of humor and a contagious laugh. He deeply enjoyed being surrounded by friends and family and reminiscing about funny memories while creating wonderful new ones.
He recently checked off a “bucket list” event by completing a trip to Ireland with his mother and some of his favorite relatives. It was truly one of his favorite lifetime moments.
James was the most generous, positive, and caring person you would ever meet. He truly was the person that would give you the “shirt off their back” and not think twice about doing it. No one ever had a bad word to say about him. Despite a challenging life including open heart surgery, a car accident causing a coma and brain trauma, and an extended bout with cancer, James remained optimistic, thankful, and resilient. If you had to sum up James in one word, it would be kind. He had a gentle, humble and easy-going spirit that everyone who knew him, loved him.
The world is truly a better place for having him in it… God thank you for sharing him with us.
RIP James
