Joan Caroline Horney

It is with deep sorrow yet great joy to announce the passing of Joan Caroline Horney of Essex, Maryland, who was received into the arms of Jesus, on February 13, 2022, at the age of 84.

We celebrate her life as we reflect on who she was here on earth. Joan was a dedicated, fun-loving, and caring person to all who made her acquaintance. She greatly loved and sacrificially attended to her family. She loved nature and enjoyed time working with her plants and flowers. An endless supply of food was readily available to the birds, rabbits, raccoons, foxes, frogs, ducks, and fish that frequented her yard. Professionally, Joan was the executive secretary to the doctors in the neonatal department of Johns Hopkins Hospital. Joan’s life was well-lived.

Preceded in death by father John George Kalb, mother Ina Belle Mills, sister Linda (Wayne) Biby, husband Robert R. Horney Sr., and son Robert R Horney Jr.

Survived by sister, Julie (Kevin) Boss, daughter, Tammy Petruzzi; grandchildren, Eryn (Chandler) Nolet, Guy Petruzzi, Stefanie (Robbie) Hicks, and Ian (Haley) Horney; great grandchildren, Natalie Young, Abigail Hicks, Bryce Petruzzi, Ramiya Nolet, Samuel Hicks; many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

She will always be in our hearts as she was cherished and deeply loved.
