John W. (Hop) Hopkins, 86, of Greenfield/Hazlewood. Born on May 29, 1939; passed on August 7, 2025.
Beloved husband of Carol (Rizzo) Hopkins. Loving father of Lee Ann Lowman and Dina (Ed) Tirpak. Son of the late William W and Rose (Canofari) Hopkins. Cherished grandfather (Pup) to Dustin (Stephanie), Jack (Kate) Lowman, Jonathon, Joey (Madi) and Gianna Tirpak. Great-grandfather to Dustin and Mila Lowman.
John, known to most as "Hop", was a Jack of all Trades and Master of many. He was a highly talented drummer, performing for 30 years with various musicians in clubs in and around Pittsburgh. He served in the U.S. Army at Fort Buchanan. He was a skilled and licensed barber, freely and regularly providing his craft to his four grandsons, who trusted no one else to cut their hair. Those lucky enough to sit in Hop's chair received much more than just the perfect fade or taper...He supplied great stories, straight talk and sound advice. In addition to working as a musician and barber, Hop also spent many years as a steel worker at J&L/LTV Steel and P.R. for ACME Music Company and K&R Vending.
Hop loved being a grandfather and great grandfather to his grandsons (cheering them on in various sports and taking them out for meals), but his adoration for his daughters, granddaughter and great granddaughter was undeniable. To his daughters, Lee Ann and Dina, he was always "Daddy", a title earned through undying love and fierce protection.
Hop took such great pride in his family, but his greatest pride was in his 62-year marriage to his wife, Carol. They were a perfect match and their solid union was an inspiration to many, especially their children and grandchildren.
In one word, Hop was "cool." He was not a flashy or boisterous guy, but he had the kind of charisma that attracted people to him. And once you were in his orbit, he quickly earned your admiration and respect.
There was rarely a party, sporting event, job site etc. where his children and grandchildren didn't run into someone who knew and loved "Hop." He truly leaves behind the kind of legacy worth aspiring toward
