John Karafa, Sr.

On April 11, 2015, age 81 of West Homestead.

John was born in Hazelwood the son of the late Joseph & Elizabeth (Liptak) Karafa.

Loving husband of 52 years to Betty “Berzie” (Bronowicz) Karafa.

Beloved father of Paula (Tim) Potosnak and John J. (Gina) Karafa Jr.

Cherished grandfather of Rachel (Jarrett) DeLuca, Rebecca (Ryan) Loughner, Mary (her boyfriend Dan) Potosnak and Kayla Rose Karafa.

John served his country in the U.S. Army for 2 years as a paratrooper for the 101st Airborne Division.,  he was retired with 42 years of service from Calig Steel Drum, coached little league for West Homestead Baseball Association for many years,  and served many years as a Deputy Constable for the Borough of West Homestead  during the elections in District # 2.

Kutzy was known in the Hazelwood and surrounding areas for his love of playing sandlot baseball and softball.

He will always be remembered for his sense of humor and joke telling.

John will be remembered by his family and friends by his famous quote “TAKE TIME, FIND TIME, MAKE TIME.”

His family would like to thank the staff of Heartland Hospice for their kindness and support.

Friends received Monday and Tuesday 2PM-4PM and 7PM-9PM at George Irvin Green Funeral Home, Inc. 3511 Main Street Munhall, PA 15120. (412-461-6394). Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday 10AM in St. Therese Church, Munhall.
