John Race

RACE JOHN W. Age 87, of Munhall, passed away Saturday, July 4, 2015. Born to Tresa and Yum (John) Race on August 5, 1927. Adored and cherished by his loving wife, M. Therese (Fenner) Race for 63 years; deeply loved by his sons, John "Skip" (Joanne) Race, Charles (Cheryl) Race; daughter, Joan Grubbs Trosky and the late Chris Race, who died on July 4, 2014; grandsons, John "Jay" (Alison) Race, Jeff Race and Jason (Amy) Race; granddaughters, Kate (Dennis) Naujelis; Alana and Larkin Trosky and Mandy Race; also two great- granddaughters, Delaney and Saylor Race; also survived by loving and caring nieces and nephews who adored him and called him "Uncle Porky"; and numerous cousins; loving brother of sister, Pearl (late Regis) McCloskey and brother, Albert "Bus" (Joan) Race; also nephew of Joseph Race of Whitaker and Wilma Koch of Munhall. Jack was a member of St. Therese's R.C. Church in Munhall. He was a graduate of Munhall High School 1945. He was very proud of his service in the Navy, of which he served in Bikini and Operation Crossover and witnessing the first test of the nuclear bomb. Past President Homestead P.O., Past PA State President and Regional Administrative Assistant PA / South Jersey Letter Carriers. He was a retired union railroad employee. Jack was a great Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins fan and they lost a great fan in John. He was a quiet, kind, and gentle man and will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. Friends received on Tuesday from 3-8 p.m. at the GEORGE IRVIN GREEN FUNERAL HOME, INC., 3511 Main St., Munhall, 412- 461-6394. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Therese Church. In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Carnegie Library of Homestead or the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.
