Joseph C. Parkinson, Sr., fondly known as Joe, passed away on February 10, 2026, in Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania. He was born on May 6, 1940, in Charleston, West Virginia. Joe lived a life of dedication and service, both professionally and in his community.
He had a distinguished career as a retired millwright for U.S. Steel Homestead Works, complemented by over 30 years of service as a constable for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Joe was a man who always believed in giving back, demonstrated through his active participation in many organizations. He was a proud member of Omni Lodge # 509 F&AM for 50 years, served as Chairman of the Democratic Committee for the Borough of West Mifflin, and volunteered as a Cub Master for Pack #2. Additionally, he held lifetime membership in the Thompson Run Athletic Association and the Allegheny County Constable Association, as well as being an active member of the West Mifflin Lions Club for over 40 years.
In his personal life, Joe found joy in simple pleasures. He had a deep affection for cutting the grass and working on cars, hobbies that brought him peace and satisfaction. Traveling and camping were among his cherished activities, but above all, Joe treasured the moments spent with his family. His favorite saying, “I’m the richest man because my jewelry box is full,” reflected his belief that family was his greatest wealth.
Joe is survived by his beloved wife, Ruth Ann (Mence) Parkinson, along with his children: Joseph (Caryl) Parkinson, Jr., Susan (Mike) Grasky, E. Vernon (Sonja) Parkinson, David (Jennifer) Parkinson, Natalie (Frank) Tirone, and Amiee (Joel) Roberts. He was a proud grandfather to many, including Emylee (Troy) Reardon, Joseph (Jess) Parkinson, Anna (Andrew) Nelson, Sarah (Michael) DeLos Santos, Rachel Grasky, Olesya Grasky, Devin Parkinson, James Parkinson, Kenzie Parkinson, Brittany (Ryan) Killen, Brandi (Justin Ford) Parkinson, David Parkinson, Anthony (Corinne) Tirone, Arianna (Armand) Lapiana, and Domenic (April Murphy) Tirone, along with 20 great-grandchildren. Joe is also survived by his brother Richard (Joann) Parkinson and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, along with his beloved cat, Cheeto.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Lavina (Killcrece) Parkinson, and his siblings: sister Betty Wharton and brothers Donald and Dan Parkinson.
A heartfelt visitation will be held for family and friends at George Irvin Green Funeral Home in Munhall, Pennsylvania, on February 23, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and again on February 24, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A funeral service will take place on February 25, 2026, at 11:00 AM, concluding at 12:00 PM.
Joseph C. Parkinson, Sr. leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and community involvement, one that will be remembered by all who had the privilege to know him.
