Josephine Marie (Franzetta) Cramer reached centenarian status on July 5, 2024, and happily celebrated her 100th milestone birthday with family.
She was born to an Italian immigrant family in 1924 and raised in Homestead. She was preceded in death by her husband LeVan Cramer and eight of her siblings.
She is survived by her sister Magdeline in California and three sons Larry, Tom, and Dan Cramer and daughters-in-law Pam and Cecelia. She has one grandson Matthew and an extensive family who will miss her greatly.
When many men were sent off to WW2, she stepped up and became a copy editor for the Homestead Messenger and had the responsibility of writing obituaries for soldiers who bravely fought and died. Josephine was also employed as a switch board operator for Bell Telephone. She was married in 1951 and became a full-time devoted wife and mother. When her husband suddenly passed away, it became necessary for her to return to the workforce, whereby she was employed by Munhall Borough first reading water meters and then retiring as a police dispatcher. She handled every adversity with strength and dignity. Josephine was a devout member of St. Therese Church. Friends and neighbors called her Josie, and her family lovingly called her Mom, Grandma or Aunt Jay. In the Munhall community she will be remembered and missed for her delicious cooking, hospitality and her generosity of spirit. She never said unkind things and everybody she met became her friend. Josephine is truly the finest example of the “Golden Rule” guiding her life and everyone was blessed for having known her. She will be remembered for many things, but what she was most proud of was being the best mom ever. Well done, good and faithful servant (Matthew 25:23.)
Arrangements are private and have been entrusted to the George Irvin Green Funeral Home, Inc., 3511 Main Street, Munhall 15120, (412) 461-6394.
