Josephine H. Peters

February 14, 1926 — April 26, 2026

Josephine H. Peters (DiBuno), a cherished Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Great-Great-Grandmother and and lifelong Lincoln Place resident, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2026, at St. Clair Hospital, surrounded by five generations of her loving family. Born on February 14, 1926, in Hazelwood, Josephine’s life was a testament to dedication, warmth, and a deep connection to her cherished Italian heritage.

Throughout her 100 years, Josephine cultivated a vibrant family life filled with love, laughter, and tradition. She was especially proud of her Italian roots and took great joy in watching her grandchildren perform with the I'Campagnoli dance troupe, a source of pride and happiness for her. Her passion for cooking and her favorite pastime of watching the Food Network brought comfort and joy to her home, as did her Saturday night Hallmark movie rituals shared with her beloved daughter, Sandie Milkowski-Uhl, with whom she lived.

Josephine was an active member of Holy Angels R.C. Church, where she found spiritual solace and community. She was also a patron of the Make-a-Wish Foundation. Gardening and traveling were among her hobbies, along with trips to the casino, all of which enriched her life with delight and adventure.

Her family remembers her fondly as the matriarch who hosted a memorable 100th birthday celebration this past Valentines Day, attended by over 60 friends and family, a true testament to the many lives she touched. Josephine was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Williams Peters; her parents, Carmelo and Lillian (Figoli) DiBuno; her beloved son, William Peters; and her siblings Anna, John, Angelina, Rose, Pete, Mary, Ella, and Dolores.

She is survived by her devoted daughter, Sandie Milkowski-Uhl; grandchildren Marcie Salmon, Michael Milkowski, and David Peters; great-great-grandchildren Justin, Cassie, Chelsea Salmon; Dylan, Nathan, Khloe, Hailey Milkowski; Ainsley Peters; and great-great-granddaughter Skylar Bell. She is also survived by former grandson-in-law and now lifelong friend of the family, John Salmon. Their lives serve as a living legacy of Josephine’s nurturing spirit and enduring love.
