Marie E. Steiner, 97, died peacefully at 1:20 A. M. on Monday, 9 February, at Locust Grove Assisted Living, West Mifflin, Pa.  The daughter of Mary and Joseph  Steiner, she was born on a small farm in West Mifflin, in a house that burned down when she was only two months old.  The family lived in the stable until her father, a finish carpenter, had a new house built where the other had been.  Marie lived there the rest of her life until the last month or so.  One of eleven children, she was devoted to each of her siblings:  Herman, Joseph, Agnes, who only lived two days; Robert, Alma, Nicholas (Raymond), Francis, Agnes, Jesse, and Laura, all of whom predeceased her.

A graduate of Munhall High School, Marie worked for several years at Wolfarth’s Bakery in Homestead where she distributed wonderful sweets to nieces and nephews who came along.  At the beginning of WWII United States Steel began hiring and she was encouraged to apply there for a job, which she did.  She was hired immediately and worked there in the Billing Office until her retirement.

Marie loved to travel, and to visit and care for her family and friends.  She was happy for picnics and parties, and saw that everyone was well celebrated.  In her later years she and her sister, Laura, spent much of their time caring for their mother, Mary (also long-lived), who died at age 94.

Marie was a life-long and devout member of St. Agnes Church, Bull Run.  When she could no longer go to church, the priest stopped by to see her, and the Ladies of Charity would visit her to say prayers.

She is survived by many nieces and nephews, as well as great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.  Loving and compassionate, she will be sorely missed by all who know her.

Friends received on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at the George Irvin Green Funeral Home Inc. 3511 Main St. Munhall 412-461-6394 Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 11 A.M. in St. Agnes R.C. Church West Mifflin.  Please share your memories and condolences at www.georgeigreenfuneralhome .com
