Michael Johann Stano, age 92, of West Mifflin, died peacefully on July 21, 2025, surrounded by family. He was born in Petersdorf, Romania, the son of the late Michael and Maria (Stolz) Stano. Michael emigrated from Germany to the U.S. in 1955, at age 22, and married Elizabeth Regina (Fleming) on July 6, 1961, sharing 58 years of marriage before she died in 2020.
Cherished father of Monica (Timothy) Knauss, Regina (Michael) Takos and Julie David. Loving “Opa” to Angela, Hannah, Alanna (Scott), Ashley (Kacey), Matthew (Megan), and Erik (Xochitl and Jesus).
Of his five siblings, he is preceded in death by brothers Felix (Wanda) and Helmut (Erna, deceased). Michael is survived by his brother Horst (Helga) and sisters Magda Gietl (Hans) and Edda Stroll (Erich, deceased).
Michael was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne, and worked as an ornamental ironworker until retiring from Blumcraft of Pittsburgh in 2003. He was active in the West Mifflin Lions Club and the Duquesne-McKeesport Lodge of Freemasons.
Mike enjoyed gardening, hunting, and traveling with his wife Betty Jean. They were regulars at Eat ’n Park where the servers knew them by name.
Family and friends will be received at George Irvin Green Funeral Home, Inc., 3511 Main Street, Munhall, 412-461-6394 on Wednesday, July 23 from 2-4 and 6-8. Funeral service will be on Thursday, July 24 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John Mark Lutheran Church, Homestead, with Pastor Scott Brite presiding. Burial will follow.
