Nicholas Donato

Nicholas J. Donato, 85, of Munhall, passed away from Covid on Wednesday, February 10, 2021.  His son and daughter were by his side when he went to be with the Lord.  Nick was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Dorothy “Dottie,” and his sister, Grace McDonough. Loving father of Nick Donato and Marilyn (Scott) Scaff. Devoted grandfather to Dylan and Mason Scaff. Best dog walker and treat giver to his grand dogs, Zena, LeBron and Rocky.

Nick was born in Pittsburgh, PA to Joseph and Rachel Donato.  He graduated from Westinghouse High School where he was a fine athlete and continued to play softball into his 60s.  Nick retired from Westinghouse Electric, Plant Apparatus Division, after 30+ years of service.  He was a member of Holy Angels Church, actively serving as an Eucharistic Minister for nearly three decades.

His hobbies included model trains, antique cars and sports memorabilia.  He enjoyed attending outings with his friends so he could share his passion of those activities with them. Above all, most important to Nick was his joy of the daily interactions with his family. He looked forward to traveling to Texas several times per year, especially during Christmas to celebrate with the entire family.

In deference to the pandemic that took Nick, the family has made the difficult decision to best honor Nick and avoid risk to others by not having gatherings at this time.

A celebration of life will be planned when the world is better protected from the Covid virus and it is safer to gather outdoors.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Nick’s name to the Animal Rescue League of Pittsburgh or Animal Friends of Pittsburgh.  Please share your memories and condolences at georgeigreenfuneralhome.com.
