Paul H. Kohlmyer (12/9/1934 – 5/9/2024)

Passed away at his home on May 9, 2024.  Preceded in death by father Charles, mother Lena (Domenici), brother Charles, sister Elizabeth Del Pinto, brother Thomas, and brother Robert.  Survived by beloved wife Joan (Simoni), sons Steven and Matthew, sister Patricia Toomey, and many nieces and nephews.

After graduating from Connelly Trade School in 1953, Paul began his lifelong vocation as a bricklayer, developing into a true master craftsman.  He practiced his trade well into his 70s, constructing innumerable residences and buildings across the Pittsburgh region.  From 1957 to 1959 he served his country in the United States Army, primarily posted in West Germany.

In 1958 he married the love of his life, Joan, and was a devoted husband for 66 years until his passing.   In 1960, he built a house for Joan and himself in his native Hays neighborhood of Pittsburgh.  There they raised two sons, and he lived there until the day of his passing.  Paul was a devoted husband and father, who was always willing to make hard sacrifices for the benefit of his family.

A faithful Catholic, Paul sacrificed his time and talents for his home parish of Holy Angels in many ways, including serving as an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion and volunteering at the church bingo.  He was one of the initiators of Holy Angels’ famous fish fry and volunteered as a food preparer and fry cook for nearly 20 years.

Paul loved fishing, gardening, vacationing at the beach, and traveling to many exotic locales with his family and friends. In his later years, he enjoyed birdwatching from his back patio and developed a knack for solving cryptogram puzzles.  Above all, he enjoyed spending quality time with his family, who will deeply miss him.

Friends and family will be recieved Sunday, May 12, from 1-4 PM and 6-8 PM at the George Irvin Green Funeral Home, Inc., 3511 Main Street, Munhall 15120, (412-461-6394). A Mass of Christian Burial will take place the following morning, Monday, May 13, at 10:30 AM at Holy Trinity Parish: Holy Angels R.C. worshipsite, in Hays. Internment is to follow.
