Richard C. McElhinny, of Lincoln Place. Born Feb. 4, 1936 and passed away Feb. 8, 2026 after a milestone 90th birthday. Preceded in death by parents Lawrence and Amelia, brother Donald (Bertha), and nephew Lawrence (survived by Susan). Survived by brother Alan (Joan). Devoted uncle to Maureen Thornton (Joseph, deceased), Carol McMorris (Donald), Janet Sculimbrene (Michael), Eileen Kress (Raymond), Sue Kelly (Brian), Steve McElhinny (Tracy), Jill and Linda McElhinny, and Diane Coury (Ken), and great uncle to 26 nieces/nephews, including their spouses.
“Uncle Rich” was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in Germany as a medic. Following his military service, he spent his professional career with Westinghouse Elevator where he utilized his mechanical and electrical skills. A faithful Catholic, attending weekly mass at his home parish of St. Agnes, he would help as an usher during his later years when needed and was always happy to have a fish fry sandwich during Lent.
Summer was a favorite time of year when he patiently worked his large garden of home-grown tomato plants and relaxed on his porch watching tv with his snacks and cold drinks. A long-time Penguins fan and season ticket holder, he passed along his enjoyment of hockey to other family members and was fortunate enough to attend games during the team’s run to their multiple Stanley Cup victories. He was always present for birthdays, holidays, family celebrations and random weekend get-togethers, and his good nature served him well when the after-dinner entertainment was often a Disney or Pixar movie!
May his soul rest in peace as he will be fondly remembered and missed. Family and friends received Friday, Feb. 13 from 3-7pm at George Irvin Green Funeral Home, 3511 Main Street, Munhall, with Mass of Christian Burial at St. Agnes R.C. Church, West Mifflin, on Saturday, Feb. 14 at 10am. Interment at Calvary Cemetery to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Thomas the Apostle Parish.
