Sally Ann Shields

Sally Ann (Orr) Shields, age 78 of West Mifflin, beloved wife of the late James E Shields Sr, passed away on Wednesday July 27, 2022.  Known to so many as “Sweet Sal”, she is the loving mother to James E (Jennifer) Shields Jr., Glenn P (Amy) Shields, and Randi (Jim) Lane. She is adored by her grandchildren Connor, Mackenzie, Keara, Austin, Logan, Olivia, and Liam who were the light of her life. 

Sally was also preceded in death by her son Paul Shields, parents Mabel W (Garland) and Charles J Orr, siblings Darlene (Orr) McLindon, Charles “Butch” Orr Jr., niece Renee McLindon and dear friend Mary Carol McCarthy.  She is survived by her sister in laws Mary Orr and Joan Shields and many beloved nieces and nephews of the Orr, Shields and Hartman families. 

Sally graduated from the Homestead Hospital School of Nursing and worked for over 40 years as an RN at Homestead and Jefferson Hospitals where she received many awards and commendations. Sally was proud of being a nurse on 5 North and the Surgery Center where she cared for each of her patients as if they were part of her own family. 

Family was Sally’s top priority and within minutes of knowing her, you felt like part of hers.  She had a way of making everyone feel special and loved. All were welcomed in her home on Christmas Eve or any Sunday afternoon.  She loved the Steelers, Pirates, her “kids”, her dogs and everything Irish. 

She will be greatly missed by everyone who was touched by her kindness and love.

Friends and Family will be received on Sunday, July 31, 2022 from 2-8 PM at George Irvin Green Funeral Home, Inc., 3511 Main Street, Munhall 15120 (412.461.6394).  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, August 1, 2022 at 10:30 AM at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Hays.
