Shirley Allen

Age 81, passed away peacefully on July 28th, 2018.  Shirley was beloved wife of Richard A. Allen, long – time Tax Collector and Mayor of West Mifflin.  In November they would have celebrated their 59th anniversary.  She was a wonderful and devoted mother of her two sons, Dr. Richard S. Allen of Chattanooga, TN and Dr. Douglas E. Allen of Lewisburg, PA.  She is also survived by her daughters – in – law Karen (Spirnak) and Melissa (Martin) and two grandchildren Samuel and Katie.  She is the daughter of the late William and Ann (McCann) Gilchrist and sister to Nancy Koerber of Clearfield, PA.

Shirley did an outstanding job helping to manage both the West Mifflin Tax Office and Allen Insurance Agency for many years.  She was also very active in local community organizations including the Lebanon Women’s Club and Holy Spirit Women’s Guild.  One of her greatest accomplishments was the establishment of the West Mifflin Emergency Medical Ambulance Service for the borough, serving on the board from its inception.
