Shirley Ann (Whitesell) Hamill
On January 26, 2019, Shirley Ann (Whitesell) Hamill, age 83 of Munhall, PA formerly of Cokeville, PA, went home to Jesus. Shirley was born March 21, 1935; the daughter of the late Evelyn R. (Rexrode) and Claire Whitesell. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Russell “Terry” Hamill and her sister, Faye Clawson.
Shirley was a devoted servant of God and an active member of Anne Ashely United Methodist Church. She served on Midum, and enjoyed baking for the famous roast beef dinner and other fund raisers. She volunteered with the Salvation Army and 8th Avenue Place. She touched so many lives through her charitable works.
Growing up, she played softball for the Cokeville Cookies and played trumpet for her school. She also enjoyed playing the piano. While raising kids, she worked part-time which taught her children a strong work ethic. At age 40, Shirley went back to school for a medical assistant degree. She worked for 30 years and retired to care for her husband, Terry. She has inspired her two great-granddaughters Lexi and Morgan to pursue nursing degrees.
When you asked Shirley what was her proudest and greatest accomplishment in life, her answer was her family. From attending the births of her grandchildren to fixing wounded hearts, Shirley was always there. Shirley taught the women of the family to be strong and selfless. She taught the men to be patient and kind. She was a blessing to everyone she touched. Even though Shirley is no longer by our side, she will remain forever in our hearts.
Shirley was a loving mother to one daughter: Sheryl (Eric Smith) Zajicek of Munhall, PA and two sons: Roger (Mary Beth) Hamill of Munhall, PA and Russell E. (Sheila) Hamill of Turtle Creek, PA;
Cherished sister of Evelyn Brooks and Lon “Sonny” (Judy) Whitesell and a sister-in-law to Aneurin Clawson and Robert Hamill.
Doting grandmother to Michael (Jesi) Hamill, Marnie (Stephen) Sutch, Matthew (Alicia) Hamill, Mark Hamill Sr., and Rachel Zajicek.
Loving great-grandma to Michael Hamill, Donoven Rudberg, Lexi Rudberg, Morgan Hamill and Mark Hamill Jr.
She was a wonderful aunt to several nieces and nephews.
