Thomas Ellis

Thomas Ellis, age 92, went home to be with our Lord on July 7, 2023. Born in Homestead on December 7, 1930, to his late parents Albert and Sarah (Corey) Ellis. Thomas was a lifelong resident of Steel Valley, where he met and married his beloved wife, Virginia “Guppy” (Wollfolk) Ellis, who has since passed.

Thomas is survived by his three loving children, daughters, Melissa Ellis of Pleasant Hills & Eva (Art) Harley of Florida; and son, Thomas (Hilda) Ellis Jr., of Florida. He also leaves behind two sisters, Diana Portillo & Sally Degenkolb, of Munhall and Homestead, respectively. Thomas loved nothing more than being a Grandpap to his four grandchildren, Joshua (Lainey) Ellis, Chad (Allison) Ellis, Emily (Nicholas) Miller, & Sarah Harley; and beloved Great-Grandpap to Faith, Joshua Jr., Abigail, Nathan, Natalie, & Mira. Thomas will be deeply missed by all.

Thomas was a proud veteran, serving in the US Army during the Korean War. Upon his return, Thomas took a job as a machinist at Mesta Machines in Homestead until his retirement; it was here that he made a great career, and life, for himself and his beloved family. Thomas was a devoted member of the Homestead United Park Methodist Church. He was also a talented carpenter with a love for woodworking, a love only rivaled by his love for the Pittsburgh Steelers (and all other sports for that matter, too).

Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 from 1PM-4 PM at the George Irvin Green Funeral Home, Inc., 3511 Main Street, Munhall 15120 (412)461-6394), where a Funeral Service will be held at 4 PM with Pastor Don Kephart officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation to your local animal shelter in Thomas’s memory.
