Thomas Paul Sedlak, known affectionately as "Sezzy" and fondly nicknamed "Sed the Bolt" for his lifelong career in industrial fastener sales (and later insurance sales) passed away peacefully on March 30, 2026, surrounded by his cherished family. Born on October 13, 1938, in Homestead, Tom’s 87 years were rich with dedication, community, and a profound love of the outdoors.
An Army veteran, Tom was drafted during the Korean Conflict, serving his country with honor and discipline. Tom was a devoted member of Homestead Park United Methodist Church, where he and his wife Alice shared a life of faithful service and fellowship. His spirit was one of generosity and steadfast support, qualities that extended naturally into every relationship he nurtured and is one that will transcend his death as he was able to give the gift of life through organ donation via the Centers for Organ Recovery and Education (CORE) here in Allegheny County.
His love for the outdoors was legendary. An avid hunter and fisherman, he was an enthusiastic vegetable gardener who triumphed over the challenges of his hillside garden. Whether skiing on snow or water, speedboating, or stocking streams during trout season, Tom embraced the natural world with enthusiasm and reverence. A fixture in the Laurel Highlands during deer season, Tom was known to bring Thanksgiving leftovers to share with fellow hunters, embodying a spirit of kindness and camaraderie. He treasured moments of blessing—for instance, at the age of 80, Tom spoke gratefully of a special hunt where “God smiled down at him,” gracing him with two beautifully plump turkeys. Known also as a true Mr. Fix-It, his handy nature was a hallmark of his character. But better known yet, as a friend to all.
Tom leaves behind a beloved family who carried his warmth and strength forward: his wife Alice (Tuttle) Sedlak; their children Janet Sedlak and Dan Sedlak; and grandson Will Sedlak. He is survived by his sister Loretta (the late Melvin) White, along with numerous nieces and nephews who remember him fondly. Lifelong friendships with Bob Steiner and Joe Mikula were a testament to the enduring bonds Tom formed throughout his life.
He was predeceased by his parents, Thomas A. Sedlak and Margaret Mary (Feher) Sedlak, and his brother-in-law Melvin White.
Family and friends received at the George Irvin Green Funeral Home, located at 3511 Main Street, Munhall, Pennsylvania 15120 on April 6, 2026, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., and again from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will take place on April 7, 2026, beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the Funeral Home with Pastor Don Kephart officiating. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to Heifers International, a cause he and Alice supported around the holidays by gifting each other a symbolic calf or goat in the spirit of helping others.
Tom’s legacy is one of steadfast commitment, enduring friendship, and a love of life and nature that inspired those lucky enough to know him. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered with respect and affection by all who had the privilege of crossing his path.
