Veronica “Vern” A. (Atyim) Sciarretti, age 85, went home to be with our Lord on Wednesday, August 9, 2023. Born in Hazelwood to late parents John and Amelia (Russman) Atyim, where she grew up with her brother, John Atyim, of California. Veronica went on to raise a beautiful family in West Homestead with husband, the late John B. Sciarretti, Sr. Veronica is survived by their three children; two daughters, Sherry (Albert) Vento & Veronica “Babe” Capozzolo; and son, John B. (Angie) Sciarretti Jr. Veronica also leaves behind seven grandchildren: Nicole (Ron) Mance, Albert “A.J.” (Laura) Vento, Adrienne Sciarretti, Veronica (Sam) Miclot, Sophia Sciarretti, Gabriella Capozzolo, & John B. Sciarretti III; and three great grandchildren: Adriana, Gianna, & Isabella Mance. Veronica, or “Dede” as she was known to her grandchildren and great grandchildren, will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A devout Catholic and member of her church, St. Rosalia of Greenfield, Veronica also loved to travel the world with her late husband, John. But Veronica loved nothing more than to spend time with her family, especially with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Veronica’s family will miss her legendary Sunday sauce and meatball dinners.
Family and friends will be received Tuesday August 15 from 6-8 pm and Wednesday August 16 from 2-4 pm & 6-8 pm at the George Irvin Green Funeral Home, 3511 Main Street, Munhall, 15120, ((412)461-6394. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held the following morning, Thursday, August 17, at 10:00 am, at St. Thomas the Apostle: St. Therese of Lisieux worship site with Fr. Nicholas Mastrangelo officiating.
