Douglas J. Grieb, 92, of 324 School Street, West Mifflin, PA passed Wednesday, February 5, 2020, surrounded by family. Doug was predeceased by his loving wife of 50 years, Glenda R. Grieb. Doug enjoyed golfing and bowling through the age of 88; Bowling at Corral Lanes and Duquesne Village and Golfing at numerous locations with leagues and his children and grandchildren.  He enjoyed all of his children (7), grandchildren (21) and great-grands (25).  Doug graduated from the Schwab Vocational School in Homestead, PA in December, 1944; and the Commercial Institute of Pittsburgh in July, 1956.  Doug was a lifetime member of the Homeville Volunteer Fire Co becoming a member in March of 1959.  He was employed by Union Carbide, Linde Division where he worked for 40 years, retiring in 1992.

Doug was a Veteran of the US Army in Communications as a Teletypewriter Equipment Repairman for 5 years.  He was awarded the WWII Victory Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Medal and a Good Conduct Medal.  Doug was on active status twice stationed in Occupied Japan at the end of WWII, 1946-1947; and, the Korean War, 1949-1952.  Doug was formally discharged as a Corporal on July 24, 1952.

Douglas was born on October 4, 1927, in Homestead Hospital.  He was the son of the late Gertrude (Shipe) and William Grieb of Bellwood, PA.  He is survived by Daughters: Joyce Fennell of Lewes, DE; Denise Knox of Wyoming, DE; Sandi Strom of West Mifflin, PA; Linda Grieb of Newport News, VA; and, Sons:  Douglas Grieb Jr of Barrington, NH; David Grieb of Lexington Park, MD; and Glenn Grieb of West Mifflin, PA; and, children’s spouses: Roy Fennell, Don Knox, Barbara Grieb, and Linda Grieb.  Also survived by brother, Ken Grieb of Mars, PA; and, sister, Elsie Ruffing of Bentleyville, PA.  He is pre-deceased by brothers William Grieb, August Grieb, and Joseph Grieb; and, sisters Relda Stempien, and Barbara Grieb; and, grandson, Nicolas Checque.

Friends will be received at the George Irvin Green Funeral Home, 3511 Main Street, Munhall, PA 15120 (412-461-6394) on Friday, February 14, 2020 from 2-4 and 6-9 pm and Saturday, February 15, 2020 from 8:30-9:30 am with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10 AM at Resurrection Church. Following the interment at St. Elias Cemetery, a Celebration of Life will be at Mifflin Social Club. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Medi Home Health & Hospice, 530 Independence Pkwy, Suite 200, Chesapeake, VA  23320 or United Service Organization (USO), uso.org, 888-484-3876 .
