Martha "MOTTS" Schrecengost

Martha “MOTTS” Schrecengost was born in Baltimore, Maryland on April 1, 1931.  One of six children by Emil Hahn and Leokadia (Schmidt), a German immigrant.  Martha was an outgoing, fun loving, competitive and compassionate person.  Her love of sports inspired her athleticism resulting in a top team pick when playing sports with neighborhood boys, where she received her nickname, MOTTS. Martha attended Baltimore’s Western High School and excelled in basketball with her younger sister, Lydia.  Martha continued her love of sports in later life by playing golf and bowling.  She was a competitor with the Whitaker Lion’s Club Bowling League, where she achieved a single high game of 286. Although Martha and her siblings were Baltimoreans, Martha moved to Pittsburgh after marrying John R. Schrecengost (Shreck) in 1951.  That move converted her to a loyal Pittsburgh fan, earning her the siblings label of “traitor”.  Martha’s compassion for people found her undertaking volunteer work with various charitable organizations.  She was devoted to family and friends through her expression of unconditional love. Motts will be endlessly missed but her family is comforted as she starts her heavenly journey. Beloved wife of the late John R. Schrecengost; Loving mother of Debra L. Schrecengost and John (Dixie) Schrecengost; Cherished grandmother of Julie (Matthew) Apple and Jenna (Daryl) Watson; Loving great-grandmother to Noah & Madylin Apple and Aryah Watson; Dear sister of Thomas (Joann) Hahn, late Esther Klein, late Lydia (Charles survives) Reisig, and the late Emil "Dutch" Hahn; also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Martha was a member of Homestead Park United Methodist Church for many years. Thanks to the caregivers for all the love and wonderful care you have given to Martha and our family.
