MORAN, Maura Jean (Fleeson), age 71, formerly of Shadyside, passed away on February 4, 2021 (World Cancer Day) after a 16-month battle with renal cancer. She received a Bachelor's degree in mathematics (Rosemont College), and a Master's degree in education (Yeshiva University). Maura was a Daughter of the American Revolution, born and raised in Brooklyn, NY and moved to Pittsburgh shortly after marrying her husband, John Patrick Moran (died 2001) of the Hill District/Hazelwood. She taught math at Langley high school for almost 35 years, and was treasured by her students and colleagues. On any given day you could find Maura strolling a mall, cheering on the NY Mets or Pittsburgh Steelers, watching a Hallmark movie, or decorating her house for Christmas. Maura's friends describe her as caring, attentive, and generous; she would gladly give you the shirt off her back. Nothing could light her up like a lunch date with the kids in her life, discovering a new favorite scent of hand soap at Bath & Body Works, finding a great new gadget on QVC, or recalling her trips to Ireland especially the one during which she met her husband. Maura was a dedicated Catholic, living her faith daily in her service to others and adoration, especially for the Blessed Mother. In addition to her husband, Maura is preceded in death by her parents Francis and Regina Fleeson, brother Frank Fleeson, nieces Paula Heinicka and Terry Cherven, and nephew and Godson Joshua Walsh.
