On Thursday June 25th, 2020, following a courageous battle for his health, Paul Joseph Saunders Sr., age 73, of West Mifflin, went to be with the Lord. Paul was born in Pittsburgh, PA on June 19th, 1947.  Paul is the son of deceased Henry H. (Joe) Saunders and the late Mary Ann (Aul) Saunders.

Everyone who knew Paul could see that loving and caring for his family was his true passion and priority.  Paul is survived by his beloved wife, Sandy Saunders, of West Mifflin. They recently celebrated 50 years of marriage. Paul is also survived by his sisters and brothers, Mary June (Richie) Woods of Pleasant Hills, Kathleen Liggins of California, Thomas (Gail) Saunders of Bon Air, and Mark (Sue) Saunders of Pleasant Hills.  Survived also by his devoted children, Paul (Cheryl) Saunders of Elizabeth Township, Sean (Susan) Saunders of South Park, Gretchen “Gigi” (John) Gensler of West End, and Joshua (Amber) Saunders of White Oak. Survived also by his eight grandchildren, Haylee, Madisyn, Gabriella, Sean, Joshua Jr, Adalynn, Ethan and Jace, whom he considered to be a highlight of his life. Also remaining are several other cherished nephews and nieces, including Richie (Melissa) Woods of West Mifflin.

Post high school, Paul served in the United States Air Force.  Following his military service, Paul joined the Painter’s Local Union #6, where he eventually became a Business Agent and then Financial Manager. After that, he worked for FEMA as an Inspector. He also went on to become a Facilities Coordinator for Allegheny Health Network.

As a follower of Jesus Christ, throughout the years Paul looked forward to attending and later heading up mission trips to Mexico and was a member of Walnut Grove A/G Church Board.  He enjoyed studying the Word of God, especially with his Huddle group at The South Hills Bible Chapel, as well as the Men’s Bible study in his own home.

Paul’s fun sense of humor and way of relating to people made all those around him feel comfortable. He will always be remembered for his genuine and humble spirit. Not through words, but by the way he lived out his life, he leaves a lasting legacy behind. “Let us not love with words or speech, but with actions and in truth.” 1 John 3:18
